Etymologica

Új sorozatot kezdek Etymologica címszó alatt. Jobban mondva már el is kezdtem a Szombati Napló hasábjain, és majd ha már jó sok lesz, kiadok belőle egy könyvet. Bátorkodom ide is feltenni néhány szösszenetet, hátha nem lopják el.
A dolog lényege az, hogy a magyar nyelvbe beépült zsidó szavakat elemzem.
Hivatalosan szólva:
Célom olyan zsidó szavak rövid bemutatása, amelyek héber vagy jiddis eredetük ellenére beépültek a magyar köznyelvbe. Ezek egy része oly széles körben elterjedt, hogy a mai magyarság már nem is feltétlenül ismeri a szó etimológiáját, mások pedig inkább zsidó körökben használatosak.


I am starting a new topic here under the label “Etymoligica”.
I am going to write about the etymology of Jewish words that became part of the Hungarian language. Some of them are even in the dictionary. There words that originate from the Hebrew or Yiddish language are used daily by thousands of native Hungarian speakers. Some of these words are used mostly by Jews, but many of them are really a part of the language by now. Since many people may not be familiar with the root and the exact meaning of these words I will try to explain them.
I am not going to translate these writings into English since I don’t think it makes much sense, given that we are talking about Hungarian etymology. However, if anyone would like to know the meaning of a certain word mentioned in the subject line, please contact me and I will translate the article.
